The Ardbeg Choppers
The Ardbeg Choppers
A few months ago the Ardbeg Choppers stopped at a few locations in St. Louis, one of them being my favorite local whisky purveyor, The Wine Merchant. In addition to showing-off the magnificent custom built Choppers, reps for Ardbeg/Glenmorangie also put on a tasting which included, the impossible to pronounce Airigh Nam Beist, also know simply as The Beist as well as Ardbeg 10 and the also hard to pronounce Uigeadail (curse that Celtic language). The Uigedail which is cask strength at 54.2% ABV is being discontinued so if you feel the need to snap some up you’d best act fast.
If memory serves me correctly they also poured Glenmorangie Sonnalta PX and Glenmorangie Astar. Of the three Ardbegs, which I had never tasted against each other, I was surprised to say that I think I like the 10 the best although neither of the others are to be disregarded and certainly at cask strength the Uigeadail is very persuasively alluring. The Sonnalta PX, finished in Pedro Ximenez sherry casks, was new to me that night but I have to say I still like the Astar, bottled at 57.1% ABV, non-chill filtered, better. The Astar, reasonably priced at about $80 is still my favorite Glenmorangie dram.
